Basketball Handicap (Spread) Odds API

Point-spread odds from multiple bookmakers with every alternate line, normalised to the home team's handicap.

By the HoopsAPI team · Updated

HoopsAPI's handicap odds API returns basketball point-spread odds from 6 bookmakers (1xBet, Betway, FanDuel, Pinnacle, Smarkets and Unibet) for every upcoming game in over 100 competitions, from the NBA and EuroLeague to second divisions and women's leagues. It includes every alternate line, and the line is always expressed as the home team's handicap, so bookmakers can be compared directly.

How are handicap lines expressed?

Bookmakers express handicaps differently: some quote each team's own handicap, some only the favourite's. In HoopsAPI, line is always the home team's handicap. A line of -4.5 means the home team gives 4.5 points; +3 means it receives 3. The home and away prices are the odds for each side of that same line.

Handicaps include overtime for the full game (period ft). Whole-number lines can push (stake returned); half-point lines cannot.

Does it include alternate handicap lines?

Most bookmakers offer several handicap lines per game. The list endpoint returns each bookmaker's main line, the one whose two prices are closest to each other, which is the line the bookmaker considers fair:

GET /v1/games?competition=NBA (prices from 17 October 2026)
{
  "game_id": 1633801637,
  "competition": "NBA",
  "home": "Detroit Pistons",
  "away": "Boston Celtics",
  "start_time": "2026-10-20T19:00:00Z",
  "periods": {
    "ft": {
      "pinnacle": { "spread": { "line": -1.0, "home": 1.961, "away": 1.925 }, ... },
      "fanduel":  { "spread": { "line": -1.5, "home": 1.952, "away": 1.87 }, ... },
      "smarkets": { "spread": { "line": -1.0, "home": 1.82, "away": 1.81 }, ... }
    }
  }
}

A single game returns every alternate line each bookmaker offers, main line first, under lines:

GET /v1/games/1633801637
"lines": {
  "ft": {
    "pinnacle": {
      "spread": [
        { "line": -1.0, "home": 1.961, "away": 1.925 },
        { "line": -3.5, "home": 2.35, "away": 1.636 },
        { "line": -3.0, "home": 2.26, "away": 1.689 },
        { "line": -2.5, "home": 2.18, "away": 1.74 },
        ...
      ]
    }
  }
}

Alternate lines are what make cross-bookmaker comparison possible: when two bookmakers' main lines differ, you can still compare them at the same line. See how much basketball odds differ between bookmakers.

Are there handicaps for halves and quarters?

The same structure is available for h1, h2 and q1–q4 wherever bookmakers offer them. See the quarter and half odds API.

How fresh is the handicap data?

  • Odds refresh every 10 minutes; each game carries updated_at, the last time any of its prices changed.
  • Lines a bookmaker withdraws disappear from the response, so you never compare against a price that is no longer offered.
  • Every price change is kept. The historical odds API returns the full line movement and closing odds.
